About the Artist
Blurring the lines between realism and modern Impressionism, Katie Fleming’s work depicts scenes that relate to her rural Indiana roots. She is drawn to nature and often creates vivid, painterly landscapes from personally meaningful places. She also specializes in painting wild flora and fauna found in Indiana and throughout the Midwest. She can also be found painting "en plein air", which allows for quick sketches of the Indiana countryside. Influenced by artists like Claude Monet, J.M.W. Turner, and T. C. Steele, Katie works to achieve atmospheric qualities in her paintings- combining intense colors with detailed and expressive mark making. She hopes to capture the lighting and colors of a scene, while also drawing emphasis to the main subject of the painting. The end result is hopefully a meaningful yet expressive depiction that sparks joy and delights audiences of all ages.
Katie Fleming graduated from Ball State University in 2014 with a BFA in art, concentrating on painting. Katie specializes in watercolor, acrylic, and pastel painting. Many of her paintings are in private collections throughout the United States. With her art, Katie strives to show the world that Indiana and by extension the Midwest are beautiful places which should not be overlooked or underestimated.
